It's good that you fail to win the contest the first time, because that opens the Uncle's home, and you can visit him, and get the special ingredients for the Mixed Casserolle of Pork. After you fail the contest, open the Adventure window and go to Uncle. You will be able to ask him for the special ingredients. Then go to the restaurant, open the recipe list, and turn the "bags" to red (in stock). This will improve the food rate of the recipe. To turn the bags to red: click on the bag (or double-click, don't remember). A window with the supplier will be openned. Highlight the supplier, and put 'v' on the upper window.
At the contest: After you chose the recipe, click on the bag under it, and put 'v' on all ingredients. You can skip the mini-games you don't know (I am good only in 1-2-3, and ABC games), by click on the small window that opens, at the left there is a door that enables you to skip it.
I won the contest at the first time, and lost the chance to get the ingredients from Uncle.

In scenario 8 i used alt+shift+f to gain points to win the contest but in my goals box it says i haven't won yet. I did win....first place. What do I do? has anyone else had this problem?

Except the money cheat (shift+alt+C), I wouldn't recommend to use the other cheats, because they are quite risky.
There are many ways to win contests: 1) Always send your chef to the contest with 100% skills on the recipe (if possible). To get faster skills: - reduce price of the recipe to 0$, to force the customer to buy it (simulator likes it very much). - check the cheffs' skills on the recipe (sometimes another chef than Armand is better on the certain recipe - for instance, I won the "woo Delia" contest with Stan Mazovsky, not with Armand).
2) In the contest, skip all mini games you can't win (I chose only ABC and 123 minigames), and skip the others - you don't get reward, but neither penalty. To skip the mini game: when the mini game is oppenned, there is a small door sign in the bottom right; click on it, and skip the mini game. Chose another mini game, and act the same.
3) Always wait to the second month before the scenario's end. If the chef has 65% and up skills, send him to the contest - the simulator will allow you most of the times to win the contest, if you did act as told above (0$ for selling the recipe, and checking all the cheffs' skills in all your restaurants for this recipe.
4) Each time you get a new supplier, pass all your recipes, in all kind of restaurants, and turn the new bags to red. I always begin with a French restaurant, and pass all the recipes; Then pass to Coza, and check only Italian, and Italian-American recipes (skip the 3-flagged recipes). Then Pass to an American restaurant, and check only the American recipes (skipp all 3-flagged and 2-flagged recipes).
You can't turn the bags to red when you are at the cooking contest - it can be done only before it, at the restaurant.

No, and you don't have Adventure mode too. But you can pass from town to town, if in the first restaurant choose you check all 3 towns (Paris Rome and LA).

Took me three tries to win that first contest... and I didn't realize that I was supposed to definitely use the Mixed Casserole of Pork, so I went with something that I (Armand) had more skill with... one of the appetizers, I forget which (Poached Salmon?). So now I don't have special ingredients for the Mixed Casserole of Pork, AND it's not an award-winning recipe for me! But the appetizer is, and it sells like hotcakes!!! Which is funny, because when Don Corleone showed up he talked about wanting to try the award-winning Mixed Casserole of Pork!
